On Tuesday, July 25 trainees visit Higashihiroshima City Hall.
First trainees listen to a lecture about Higashihiroshima City.
A city officer tells them about the outline of the city. Having experienced mergers, it has now more than 170,000 of population.

The 4th and final week of training has started.
Two Staffs from Support Office of Graduate School of Social Sciences come to talk about attendance book and procedures of business trip report of university staffs.
Trainees learn how to keep records of teachers’ working days and how to report their business trips. The staffs, Ms. Koyama and Mr. Kumamaru let trainees try to fill out the attendance book and then to find mistakes in business trip report.
Trainees are divided into 4 groups.
A lot of questions were presented to find out differences between the system of the Philippines and that of Japan.

In the afternoon trainees began to prepare for the presentation on Friday.
On July 22 a fashion show called KUBA COLLECTION in Otake City. Otake is a municipality that lies in the west end of Hiroshima Prefecture.
In January 2017, the 2nd Batch skill-up trainees visited there to study about vitalization of local community through the activities held at Kuba Community Center.
Skill-up trainees who visited there in January promised that they would bring the HET trainees in summer, when KUBA COLLECTION, one of the biggest events of the center, would be held, and would let them give a performance of some costumes of Mindanao.
Now the time has come !!
Kuba is 63km away from Saijo (nearest station from Hiroshima University) and it takes 1 hour and 20 minutes by ordinary train.

In KUBA COLLECTION, more than 200 local people (young and elderly, women and men) participated as models. Among them, our trainees ! Here they go !
12 HET trainees, 2 skill-up trainees, 3 assistants (Filipino and Japanese) are all in costumes.
On 18th, 19th, and 20th trainees had 4 lectures, given by Prof. Yoshinaka of Hiroshima University, Mr. Berin McKenzie of UNITAR Hiroshima Office, Ms. Takamura of Hiroshima Brand Promotion Division of HPG, and Prof. Tezuka of Hiroshima University.
July 21st is the field trip day. Trainees visit Kumano Town, next to Higashihiroshima, where brushes (for shodo (calligraphy), painting, and make-up) are produced in numbers of factories.
It takes about 30 minutes by bus to get Kumano.
First the town officers explain about the area and industry.
“Meister school” is the institute where future craftsmen and craftswomen study to be Fude (=brush) meisters.

In the afternoon trainees visit “Fude-no-sato Kobo” where skilled craftsmen demonstrate how to make traditional calligraphy fude.
Then they visit “Koyudo”, a factory that produces cosmetic brushes.

The third week of training starts with examination on last week’s lectures.
Since July 18 is a holiday in Japan and no bus commuting to Hiroshima University, trainees take their exam at a Seminar room in Hiroshima International Plaza.
In the evening Filipino Dinner Party is held at the cooking room of HIP. Thank you, Ms. Maria Kawasaki !!

Miyajima is an island located in the northwest of Hiroshima Bay. It is famous for the Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There is also an old temple called “Daisho-in” in the island.
On July 14 the trainees visited Shobara City. First they visited the City Office and studied about the outline, industries, and the characteristics of the city.
Then in the afternoon they visited three farmers who developed the new breed of rice, Satoyama-no-yume, at Yamanouchi Community Center.
Mr. Saneyasu is a former member of the municipal assembly, working
for the Community now.

Lectures on July 13th are made by Prof. Seiichi Moribe of Hiroshima University and Mr. Shin-ichi Yokota of Hiroshima Prefecture.
Prof. Moribe’s lecture is about Local Government of Japan, and Mr. Yokota’s is about Efforts to Develop Depopulated Areas of Hiroshima Prefecture.

After the two lectures, the trainees had a tasting party of the new brand, “Satoyama-no-yume.“
On July 11 trainees had 2 lectures by officers of Hiroshima Prefecture.
Mr. Tokumoto of Hiroshima Prefecture talks about Regional Comprehensive Plan.
The title of his lecture is “Hiroshima Mirai Challenge Vision”.
Mr. Yamasaki explains about the road administration of Hiroshima Prefecture.
This is his second time to make a lecture in HET.
